THE FIELD OF BIBLICAL STUDIES
Students majoring in this field are required to have the equivalent of six semester hours of undergraduate Greek before being allowed to enroll in major seminars in New Testament and/or the equivalent of six semester hours of undergraduate Hebrew in major seminars in Old Testament. Six semester hours must be earned in their area of concentration and two research seminars in another area in the Field of Biblical Studies. All students are required to take 410-113 and 420-104.
OLD TESTAMENT AREA
410-101A & B GUIDED READING IN THE OLD TESTAMENT AREA (2 credits)
Required of all who concentrate on the O.T. area. This seminar seeks to orient the student in and give a general understanding of the following O.T. subjects: Archaeology, Language, Theology, History, and Literature.
410-113 HEBREW READING SEMINAR (2 credits)
Required of all who concentrate on the O.T. area. The purpose of this seminar is to sharpen the student’s ability and skill in working with the Hebrew text. Exegetical and grammatical analysis of selected readings from different genre of the O.T. will be made.
410-121 RESEARCH IN THE OLD TESTAMENT (2 credits)
Required of all who concentrate on the O.T. Area. This seminar will emphasize aspects of O.T. studies that seem most relevant to the students enrolled. Special attention will be given to O.T. literature produced for the Asian context.
NEW TESTAMENT AREA
420-101A & B GUIDED READING IN THE NEW TESTAMENT AREA (2 credits)
Required of all who concentrate on the N.T. Area. This seminar seeks to orient the student in and give a general understanding of the following N.T. subjects: Archaeology, Language, History, Literature, and Theology.
420-104 GREEK LANGUAGE SEMINAR (2 credits)
Required of all who concentrate on the N.T. Area. The purpose of this seminar is to sharpen the student’s ability and skill in working with the Greek text. Exegetical and grammatical analysis of selected readings from different parts of the N.T. will be done.
420-130 RESEARCH IN THE NEW TESTAMENT AREA (2 credits)

BIBLICAL FOUNDATIONS AREA
425-101A & B GUIDED READING IN THE BIBLICAL FOUNDATIONS AREA (2 credits)
Required of all students who concentrate on the B.F. Area. This seminar seeks to provide orientation in and give a general understanding of the production, canonization, transmission, translation, and interpretation of the Bible and the history, geography, and archaeology of the biblical world.
425-103 BIBLICAL HERMENEUTICS (2 credits)
Required of all students who concentrate on the B.F. area. This is a study of the principles and methods of interpreting the Bible. The different hermeneutical approaches that have appeared in history will be evaluated and other relevant disciplines considered with a view of helping the student develop a valid hermeneutical methodology.
425-104 RESEARCH IN THE BIBLICAL FOUNDATIONS AREA (2 credits)
Required of all students who concentrate on the B.F. Area. This seminar will emphasize aspects of B.F. studies that seem most relevant to the students enrolled. Special attention will be given to B.F. literature produced for the Asian context.

440-125 METHODOLOGY IN HISTORICAL-SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY STUDIES (2 credits)
Required of all students who major in the field of Historical-Systematic Theology Studies. This is the study of the methods of formulating church history, theology, philosophy of religion, and Christian ethics which are relevant to the Asian context. Special attention will be given to the literature on Historical-Systematic Theology Studies which has been prepared for the Asian context.
CHURCH HISTORY AREA
430-101A & B GUIDED READING IN THE CHURCH HISTORY AREA (2 credits)
Required of all students who concentrate on the Church History Area. This seminar seeks to provide orientation in and give a general understanding of the following periods in C.H.; Ancient, Middle Ages, Reformation, and Modern.
430-104 RESEARCH IN CHURCH HISTORY (2 credits)
This seminar will emphasize aspects of Church History studies that seem most relevant to the students enrolled.
430-105 MODERN ASIAN CHURCH HISTORY (2 credits)
A study of the history of the Christian church in South and East Asia during the Modern Period (17th-20th centuries). Each student will do some special research on the history of the church in the country in which he or she ministers.
THEOLOGY AREA

Required of all students who concentrate on the Theology Area. This seminar seeks to provide orientation in and general understanding of the following Theology subjects: Classical Theology, Baptist Theology, Asian Theology, and Contemporary Issues in Theology.

450-129 CONTEXTUALIZING PRACTICAL THEOLOGY IN THE LOCAL CULTURE (2 credits)
Required of all students who major in Practical Ministry Studies. This is the study of the methods of contextualizing Practical Theology in the Asian context. Special attention will be given to the literature on Practical Theology which has been prepared for the Asian context.
PASTORAL CARE-COUNSELING AREA

Required of all students who concentrate on the P.C.-C. Area. This seminar seeks to provide orientation in and a general understanding of the following P.C.-C. subjects: Theology of Pastoral Care, Psychology of Religion, Personality Development, Pastoral Care of Special Groups, and Principles and Methods of Counseling.

450-136 GUIDED READING IN CHURCH GROWTH (2 credits)
This seminar is to provide general orientation for theological students in the area of church growth including its scholars, literature, and thought as expressed in missiological literature.
450-137 GUIDED READING IN THEOLOGY OF MISSIONS (2 credits)
A study of the principal texts of the Old and New Testaments dealing with the missionary mandate, including a critical analysis of the scholarly debate regarding their significance. This seminar will emphasize aspects of theology of missions studies that seem most relevant to the students enrolled.
450-138 GUIDED READING IN WORLD RELIGION (2 credits)
This seminar will emphasize the study of Islam within the contemporary world of religions, with attention to Islamic resurgence and the issues of modernity that confront Muslims.
450-139 GUIDED READING IN CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN MISSIOLOGY (2 credits)
This seminar is designed to examine the major trends and enduring issues that the World Christian Movement is facing today through selected recent articles from major missiological journals. Students will critique these trends and ascertain their relevance for personal ministry through reflection, interaction papers, and seminar discussions.
450-140 RESEARCH IN HISTORY OF MISSIONS (2 credits)
This seminar is designed for students to do in-depth research in the history of missions are to identify principles and strategies throughout Christian history.
450-141 RESEARCH IN MISSIONS ANTHROPOLOGY (2 credits)
This seminar is designed for missiology researchers to understand basic anthropological concepts, theoretical orientations, and methodology and be able to use them in authentic missionary fieldwork situations.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION-CHURCH ADMINISTRATION AREA

A study of the philosophy, personalities, processes, and programming employed in developing a comprehensive, contextualized, and creative youth educational ministry in Asian context.

The foundation for a philosophy of religious education, analysis of secular and religious philosophies of education, and the formulation of an adequate philosophy of religious education will be studied.
450-147 INTRODUCTION TO STATISTICAL ANALYSIS (2 credits)
A study of how statistical processes aid in supporting the findings of various types of research projects. Procedures for determining valid statistical research designs and the accurate interpretation of those results will be investigated.

This seminar is designed to study the organization and administration of a church music ministry, emphasizing the role of the Music Minister as minister, evangelist, church staff member, educator, promoter, and administrator.
SPECIAL DOCTORAL SEMINARS
480-101 COLLOQUIUM IN CHRISTIAN MINISTRY (2 credits)
A colloquium on the theology and practice of Christian ministry in Asia led by various members of the faculty. Students will formulate a theology and comprehensive program of ministry for the Christian bodies with which they are affiliated.
480-102 RESEARCH METHODS AND DESIGN (2 credits)
A study of the method of research and the design of a research prospectus. Students will prepare a rough draft of a research prospectus.
